Andrew Frederick David Brown, Age :80

Andrew Frederick David Brown, 80, was born December 23, 1939 in Plattsburg, New York to Lewis and Lena Brown. He died on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital East with the love of his life and wife Mary Anne by his side. Andrew’s two sons Mark (Felisa) and Aaron (Janet) survive along with 6 grandchildren and two stepchildren (James Earl Drake, Jr. and Laura Jean Reed.) Music and playing the oboe was a large part of Andrew’s life and career. In 1961 he received a BS degree in Music Education from Ithaca College. Further education included an MS in Music Education from Butler University in 1963 and a DMA in Oboe Performance in 1973 from the University of Iowa. Dr. Brown taught vocal and instrumental (oboe) music at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) from 1963 to 1993. He became a full time Professor of Music in 1977. In the Warrensburg community, Andrew formed and conducted the Warrensburg Community Chorus for twenty years. As a member of the Double Reed Society he was a leader and member in local music happenings. He performed at two international Double Reed conventions.


Andrew was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Lena Brown and his older brother Christopher. His is survived by a sister, Margaret Lois Boncer. Other survivors include his grandchildren Samantha and Zachary Brown (parents Mark and Felisa Brown) and Zoe and Abby Brown (parents Aaron and Janet Brown.) Other significant survivors include his step grandchildren Sarah and Jessica Reed who called him Grandy. Andrew enjoyed classical music, gardening (as a Master Gardener), traveling, the great outdoors and photography.
