Bettiejo Hinkle (McCaslin), Age :89

    Bettiejo Hinkle (McCaslin) died peacefully at home surrounded by all four of her loving children. on December 4 2018. Known to friends and family as Bettie, Jo, or Betts, she was a classy lady with a unique sense of style. She was an artist at heart from her fashionable way of dressing to her surroundings. Her home was an adventure in the unique and chic. Her gifted pallet for gardening was admired by all, and walking through her garden was like touring a living Monet.  

Bettiejo was born January 14, 1929, to Peter A. and Bettie E. McCaslin in Hoyt, Kansas. She was the youngest of seven children and was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Gene, Durrell, James and sister, Adelee.

While living with her oldest sister, Jennie, and her husband, Harold Cockrell in Kansas City, Kansas, she met and married Bernard L. Hinkle on March 8, 1948. Soon the couple welcomed their first child, Pamela (Pam Hinkle, SCL), followed by Bernard Jr (Evelyn) of Jacksonville, FL, Christopher (Lisa) of Kansas City, and Brenda (Kinlee) Kincaid of Eagle Rock, MO. They raised their children on South 16th Street in KCK and were members of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. After 40 years of marriage, Bernard Sr. died in March of 1988 while the couple vacationed in France. Bettiejo is survived by her sister, Jennie Cockrell and her daughter, Patti (Bill) Bond of Kansas City, KS; sister, Adelaide McWhirt of Topeka, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bettiejo was well known throughout the Kansas City, Kansas area where she worked many years, first helping out brother-in-law, Harold at the liquor store he owned at 7th and Ohio Street, KCK. Later she worked in the ladies’ ready-to-wear departments at Adler’s and Montgomery Wards, and later retired from the City of Kansas City, Kansas Purchasing Department. After retiring, she moved to Lake Dabinawa and later back to KCK, where she was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12 noon on Friday, December 7th, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd St., Kansas City, KS with the Funeral Mass starting at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, Interim HealthCare Hospice or the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth.
