Joan Lou Ingram, Age :93

Jul 03,1925---Dec 30,2018

Joan Lou Ingram, 93, of Roeland Park, KS passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at home in the company of her daughters.  She and her twin sister, Joyce Perry were born July 3, 1925 in Parnell, Missouri to Theodore Francis Ingram and Sarah Jane Dukes Ingram.

After graduating from Parnell High School in 1943 Joan moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she and her twin sister worked at Lerner’s Vogue Dress Shop and then a small defense plant during WWII.  After the war she met Charles O. Smith, Jr., just out of the Navy; they married June 30, 1946.  While raising her daughters, she worked for Wilson Sporting Goods until they closed their Kansas City office 29 years later.

She was our beautiful, tender-hearted muse—our story teller and song leader.  She enjoyed gardening and loved little animals, especially cats; making room for many in her lifetime. She was an avid reader and a founding member of the family Lady Bug Garden and Book Club. Music was a passion, always there was music, in good times and bad her life—our lives were punctuated with beautiful music.

She is survived by her twin sister Joyce Perry; her daughters, Joy Steck, Jennifer Smith, Janice Cain and husband Tom, Jerri Lynn VanOster and husband Tony; twelve grandchildren: Rebecca, Brandon, Michael, Jeff, Jamie, Polly, Kip, Jason, Jill, Ammie, Isaiah, Keith; eleven great-grandchildren: Ryan, Megan Chase, Hayden, Anthony Jr., Gabriel, Vincent, Raymond, Sonia, Aynssa, Seth, Alex, Alyza, Avery and great-great-grandchild Emilia.

The memorial service will take place at 1:00 pm Friday, January 11, 2019 at Porter Funeral Home; reception following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harvesters Community Food Network, 3801 Topping Ave., Kansas City, MO 64129 or
