Arlene F. (Leidig) Comfort, 87, formerly of Salina, KS, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2020 in Olathe, KS. A private memorial service is scheduled.


Arlene was born in Clay Center, KS on January 27, 1933, the daughter of Fred and Martha (Nanninga) Leidig. She graduated from Clay County Community High School. After working 5 years as a teller at Peoples National Bank, Clay Center, KS, she earned a diploma in nursing from Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Newton, KS, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marymount College, Salina, KS. She taught nursing at Asbury School of Nursing and Marymount College, and retired from nursing in 1992.  She was a member of the American Nurses Association and Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina, KS.


Arlene was joined in marriage with Malcolm D. Comfort March 21, 1964 in Clay Center, KS. She is survived by two sons, Brent (Renee) of Olathe, KS and Stuart (Ann) of Greensboro, NC, sister Kay Leidig of San Antonio, TX and sister-in-law Bernice Leidig of Clay Center, KS.  She was a proud grandmother to Erin (Logan) and Ben.  She was preceded in death by her husband after 30 years of marriage, her parents, and her siblings Emma, Ruth, Leonard and Warren.


Arlene was proud to be a member of the nursing profession. She chose to continue her commitment to nursing education by donating her body to medical science through the Willed Body Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina KS, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Olathe, KS, Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, Kansas City, MO or the charity of your choice.
